Bookish Recipe: Chocolate Peanut Butter Mug Cake

Welcome to Bookish Recipes, a feature on the blog where I cook or bake a recipe from a book I have loved and share the result with you. Today though I have decided to share with you not a recipe inspired by a specific book but a recipe that I think is the perfect snack while reading.

I love baking but sometimes making a whole batch of cupcakes, it's a bit too much, so when I first heard about mug cakes I thought, this is the perfect solution, baking for one. I tried my first ever mug cake full of hope and it was a disaster. It tasted ok-ish but the texture was horrible. So since then, I always regarded mug cakes suspiciously... until peanut butter! I have played with this recipe a lot and I have finally found the perfect mug cake,  warm and gooey inside. Have a look at my recipe:

1) Gather all the ingredients. In a separate bowl, heat the butter and mix it with the peanut butter until well combined.
2) On the mug itself, mix the egg, the sugar and the vanilla.
3) Combine the flour, cocoa, salt, and baking powder and add to the mug.
4) Add the butter mixture and combine well.
5) Finally, put it in the microwave for around 1 minute. You can experiment a little here, I like it very gooey inside so I only put mine 50".
This is how it looks like when it's done. You can add ice cream on top of whipped cream. Or even some chocolate chips to the dough. Once you put your spoon inside, you'll see how it's still melted inside. Amazing!
So now just take a good book and enjoy it!
