Top Ten Books for Readers Who Like Dogs

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because they are particularly fond of lists over there at The Broke and the Bookish. I'd love to share my lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

This week's topic was really fun. You had to choose books that would be perfect for people who like something in particular. I decided to choose dogs because I love books with fictional dogs. I have never had a dog but always wanted one so reading stories with dogs has giving me the opportunity to have lots of fantastic fictional dogs.

101 Dalamatians. I actually haven't read the book but I must have seen the movie adaptations a thousand times. One of my children favourites for sure.

Milou - Tintin. I have just discovered that he was called Snowy in English. Whatever you call him though, he is always the star in Tintin's adventures.

Harry Potter. I think I always manage to squeeze Harry Potter on my top lists but it has it all. Dogs? There's Fangs, Hagrid's loyal companion, not the bravest of dogs though. And there's Fluffly, a dog with three heads! And and and there's Padfoot, who is no other than Sirius!

Ghost - A Song of Ice and Fire. I know, technically he is a direwolf but who wouldn't want him as a pet?

The Labrador Pact by Matt Haig. The story of a family in crisis and the loyal dog that holds them together.

Norman - The One Plus One by Jojo Moyes. A beautiful story about a family struggling to make ends meet. Norman is without a doubt my favourite character and he made me shade more than one tear.

Bert- Mobile Library by David Whitehouse. One of my latest reads, I fell completely in love with this story and with Bert, this lovely dog who likes socks.

Doggo - Waiting for Doggo by Mark Mills. Doggo is a very special dog, a real inspiration for his reluctant owner, Dan.

Ticket - By My Side by Alice Peterson. I still haven't read this one but it sounds just like my kind of read. Alice writes beautiful and emotional stories and I have only heard great things about Ticket.

The Primrose Terrace Series by Crecida McLaughlin. This series is not out yet but I love the look and the sound of it. You can read more about it here.

  1. Yesss I WANT A GHOST. *ahem* But to be honest I always get nervous and mistrustful when there's a dog in a book because authors are SO mean to dogs and kill them off all the time. MAKES ME CRY. :'( Although I love Tintin. ;-) I grew up rereading those comics a million times. I just read The Honest Truth which was really sweet and had such a loyal dog in it!

  2. Mobile Library arrived for me around Christmas, but I haven't gotten around to read it yet. Maybe I should give it a try.

I have lots and lots of books you could add to this list, btw. Where the Red Fern Grows. Henry and Ribsy. Hound of the Baskervilles. Old Yeller. Animal Farm.

    Thanks for your list.

  5. Nice! I almost did a post for people who like picture books with bears. Kinda strange, but hey! Bears in children's books are pretty cool. :)

  6. I do love dogs! The only thing I cant handle is when a dog dies in the book. Too emotional for me. I can deal with people in books dying, but not the dog! <3 Bee @ Bee Reads Books
